3D Modeling and Printing with FreeCAD
3D Modeling and Printing with FreeCAD
In this online course, you will learn to use the modeling software FreeCAD to design 3D objects. I will show methods for creating objects that can be 3D printed and used in the real world. I will recommend you public spaces (like libraries) that you can use 3D printers and show you how to prepare your models for printing. However, since printing costs extra time and money, this step is optional. Only creating digital models is also perfectly fine for this course.
You don’t need to have any experience with 3D modeling programs to join (although you should be comfortable with using a computer in general). We will start by introducing the basic concepts of digital 3D design, and gradually move towards more advanced operations. If you’re already experienced with other 3D modeling software but want to learn FreeCAD, you are also welcome to join!
All classes will be held online through Zoom. In the first 1h45m, I will teach new features as you follow along. In the remaining 45 minutes, I will help those who are having issues or questions. You can also use this time to work on the projects on your own speed.
After this course, you’ll be able to:
•Use FreeCAD’s core functionalities (Sketcher and Part Design Workbenches) to create digital 3D models
•Have familiarity with FreeCAD’s more advanced functionalities (Curves, Part and Draft Workbenches)
•Design objects to be used in the real world
•Design models and prepare files for 3D printing
•Know about/ use public makerspace 3D printers to fabricate your creations
